About Us

The Peter Salmon Art Club is a group of more than 80 local artists and makers from southern New Brunswick, working together to promote the arts and inspire each other and our community. Founded in 2022, we took our name from a beloved local artist and educator who once lived across the street from our current gallery location.

Our History

The Peter Salmon Art Club is a non-profit organization, officially started in November 2023 - but the club's true beginnings go back 10 years to when Fred Harrison, a nationally renowned artist, began holding art classes at the St. Martin's Quaco Museum. From this core group, the club was formed in 2020. Fred remains our honorary president and mentor.

Who is Peter Salmon?

Our namesake, Peter Salmon was born in South Wales in 1942. After completing a National Degree in design he went on to complete an art teaching degree. Peter immigrated to Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1966 where he taught art for three years before transferring to Holland College in PEI. Salmon returned to Saint John in 1973, where he continued to teach art until his retirement in 2000. Upon his retirement, he moved to St. Martins, residing in the village until his death in 2020. Peter’s art has been exhibited nationally and internationally and may be found in many private, corporate and public collections. He was revered by his students and was a friend to the community.
